We often hear about Attachment theory, and we often hear about avoidant attachment, but how might someone with an avoidant attachment talk?
In this clip, we see Robert Mitchum's character talk about the death of his wife. Notice that he gives methodical detail in a matter of fact way. He doesn't express any emotions.
It is thought that people with an avoidant attachment learnt to shut down their emotions from a very young age because they learnt that showing emotions either didn't help or made things worth.
The funny thing is, people with an Avoidant Attachment make great military leaders. We need people who can be cool and calm when making such calculated decisions.
Those things which might appear to be our flaws, may actually end up being our strengths.
