Why Toby Maguire is the best SpiderMan, and what he teaches us about attachment:

It's 20 years on and 2 Spidermans later, but Toby Maguire's Spiderman is the best of the 3. The first of the 3 series still resonates with both Gen Y's and Gen Z's as it delves into profound aspects of human connections, emotions, and vulnerabilities.

Mary Jane had a bad experience, and seeks support from Peter Parker. At the end of it however, she leaves the interaction worse.



According to attachment theory, the way in which parents respond to their children is critical to their emotional wellbeing and development. A nurturing response goes a long way towards helping the child develop healthy self esteem, whilst a dismissive response as in the clip above can lead to the opposite.



When others come to us in distress, it is important to take a moment to consider what it must be like for them, and to show them that you really get it. It's interactions like these that can help us to feel understood, to feel valued, and to feel heard.
